The Charlie Landers Foundation

We are a nonprofit organization on a mission to strike out Ewing’s Sarcoma once and for all.

Our Mission

The mission of the Charlie Landers Foundation is to raise awareness, provide critical support to pediatric and young adult patients, and fund research to find a cure for Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Together We Can Strike Out Ewing’s Sarcoma.

The Charlie Landers Foundation was founded to honor the legacy of Charlie Landers, who passed away after a valiant two-and-a-half-year battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Through his Foundation, Charlie’s lasting legacy of strength, perseverance, courage, and compassion for others, will guide us on our mission to support Ewing’s patients and fund research that leads to a cure.

Since the Foundation was started, we have raised close to a million dollars, delivered comfort kits to patients in over twenty five hospitals across the United States, and formed a medical advisory board of leading doctors and researchers to help us allocate grants & research dollars in search of new treatments with the end goal of developing a cure that strikes out Ewing’s Sarcoma once and for all.

The State of Ewing’s Sarcoma in Numbers.

Ewing’s Sarcoma is a devastating and rare form of bone cancer that mainly affects children, adolescents, and young adults.

Survival rates vary depending on advancement of disease and age of the patient at time of diagnosis, but the 5-year survival rate for metastatic Ewing’s Sarcoma is 30% and only 10% in instances of recurrence. These statistics are unacceptable and frightening.

350
Individuals are diagnosed with a form of Ewing’s Sarcoma Annually.
Only about 350 individuals per year are diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, representing about 4% of all childhood cancers.

About half of all Ewing’s Sarcoma diagnoses are in people between the ages of 10 and 20.

These tumors can also affect babies, younger children and young adults in their 20s and 30s and sometimes even 40s.
30+
The last FDA-approved treatment for Ewing's Sarcoma was in 1990.
The last treatment approved by the FDA occurred over 30 years ago and the prognosis for survival has not changed during this time.

The 5-year survival rate for metastatic Ewing Sarcoma is 30%.

Patients who experience a recurrent form of Ewing’s Sarcoma have less than a 10% survival rate.
>4%
Only four percent of the National Cancer Institute's budget is allocated to pediatric cancers.
Due to the fact that this form of cancer is so rare amongst children, adolescents, and young adults, it has not garnered the necessary attention or funding to develop effective treatment protocols that could save the lives of countless individuals.
